Book contract!

The contract is signed and in the mail! The History Press has commissioned me to write a book representing the fading ads of Butte, Montana. The rich history of Butte, the boom to bust and revitalization will make this book a good read and nice addition to the fading ad books The History Press is publishing. I couldn’t be more pumped about this great Montana story. More to come…..

What do you folks think about repainting ghost signs? The large Eddy’s Bread sign on the Iron Front in Helena is scheduled for repainting. The community–even the preservation community–is very divided on this topic. Any comments?

It is interesting that there is a resurgence of interest in re-painting signs. What has been a fading advertisement, in many cases for defunct businesses, is now a bright new historical marker of sorts. Of the people I have talked with in other cities the division is similar to what you say is occurring in Helena.

Being a writer and being from Butte, ya think I would find something in my rich hometown history to stimulate a book outta me! I love that writers are writing Butte stories now.

Don’t be jealous. It is 40,000 words plus photos. Whew. I have my work cut out! The good news is that Butte has such a rich history I should be able to pull it off!

Jeanne, I can’t meet tomorrow at noon unless there is no tour, which is possible – I cancelled my 10 am, but if you are here at noon we can play it by ear – there may be no tours given the likely weather. Feel free to call me again and leave a phone no.
